Future technologies are therefore linked to fundamental questions of social participation, public services, justice and democracy. The shaping of digitalisation gives computer science and information technologies a central responsibility. We are facing profound changes that will determine how we live and work in the future, how we communicate and how we jointly shape an open and democratic society in the age of digitalisation.
The focus of the area is therefore on technological innovations for a sustainable digital society and the associated design framework in science, business and politics. The approach of a technology development that already addresses the possible interactions in its design represents a paradigm shift from a retrospective analysis of the effects of technology on society and the development of recommendations for action to a prospective design and development of technologies with the inclusion of different stakeholders - from ex post to ex ante.
