The transformation of traditional production systems and processes through digitization pursues many different goals. Examples include increasing the efficiency of individual processes or production steps of a production line or the efficient interaction of different individual systems, as well as optimizing availability through predictive maintenance or improving quality through error detection in workpiece production.
The share of information and communication technologies in innovations is constantly increasing. Data about products and production must be collected and processed. Analyses of this data - e.g. using artificial intelligence - automatically lead to changes in processes. Last but not least, people must continue to be integrated into production in such a way that they can fully develop their strengths.
Our institute's broad spectrum of ICT expertise has already provided a wide range of answers to questions relating to industrial production in the past. We are currently experiencing increasing demand from companies that are constantly facing new challenges. The production division of OFFIS deals with the manifold research questions that arise from the increasing introduction of digitization into industrial production. OFFIS will thus transfer the acquired ICT competences for industry 4.0 from practice-oriented research into the economy so that it can actively participate in shaping the digital transformation.
We have classified our concrete applications of the division Manufacturing's ICT-Research and -Development in the following R&D-Groups:
